Spay and Neuter

Based on studies done on early spaying and neutering and the effects it can have on the long term health of the dog, we have tried to fall into a safer time of when to perform the procedure but it is actually best to wait until after the first heat in a female and well after a year in a male; however, many vets still push to have them spayed or neutered early.

Below are a few of the reports so that you can see why we like to wait longer than what some of the vets out there want.

With females, in the majority of the puppies, 10 months is still usually before the first heat cycle but we have had one or two come in a little earlier than normal so it isn't guaranteed. If you can wait for that first cycle though, it is better long term.
